#KEPRIHATINAN RM1,000 FLOOD RELIEF AID TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO EVACUEES TODAY - ZAHID BAGAN DATUK: Relief assistance of RM1,000 will be distributed to flood victims as early as today, including those still at temporary evacuation centres (PPS). Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that under normal procedure, aid is typically distributed three days after the PPS closes. "My directive is that the aid can be given even while they are still in the PPS. I have instructed that assistance starts today because they urgently need money to replace household items that were damaged. "Although I know it may not be enough, the government's priority is to help. This is not compensation, as the floods are an act of God, a test from Allah, and must be accepted," he added. Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, spoke to reporters after being briefed on the nationwide flood situation at the Bagan Datuk Land and District Office today. He described the severe floods in Bagan Datuk as unprecedented, noting that the district had not experienced flooding of this scale in over five decades. He also thanked the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), police, Fire and Rescue Department and municipal councils for their swift mobilisation. "At one point, more than 30,000 residents nationwide were evacuated. With the rain easing and water levels receding, the number of evacuees has now dropped to around 12,000," he said.
