#OPERASI NUMBER OF FLOOD EVACUEES IN KEDAH INCREASES TO 258, SHELTERED AT 4 PPS ALOR SETAR: The number of flood victims in Kedah has risen to 258 people from 90 families, who are currently being housed at four temporary relief centres (PPS) across two districts. As of 8am today, Kulim recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 206 people from 66 families, while another 52 victims from 24 families were placed at the PPS at SJK (C) Chong Cheng in Tanjung Dawai, Kuala Muda. According to the Kedah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the PPS at Surau Taman Sang Kancil — opened at 11pm last night — is housing 88 victims from 26 families, while the PPS at Dewan Kampung Paya Tok Betok, opened at 10pm, has taken in 16 victims from three families. Meanwhile, the PPS at SJK (C) Khai Min, which opened at 11pm last night, is sheltering 102 victims from 67 families. "Flood victims in the Kulim district are from three mukims — Lunas, Sungai Ular and Karangan. "All of them are residents of Kampung Sungai, Kampung Paya Tok Betok, Kampung Seberang Jaya, Kampung Kamuting and Banggol Penyengat," the statement said. In Kuala Muda, the evacuees at SJK (C) Tanjung Dawai are residents of Kampung Huma, affected by high tides since Oct 22. Meanwhile, according to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage's Info Banjir website, water levels at two rivers in Kedah — in the Baling and Pendang districts — have exceeded the danger level, while three other rivers in Sik, Pokok Sena and Bandar Baharu have surpassed the warning level.
